Hi i'm putting in a new water pump myself its for a 1994 525i. Its basicly the exact same pump i'm installing. After i got it in though i started to hear a pining noise like it was set in there crooked Anything i can do? This is the noise it makes.

@bimmersgarage Sure no problem.

@bimmersgarage I don't have an AZ unit in my hand at this moment, but I actually do have a Graf pump at this very moment. I base my opinion on experience, so it is not an assumption. I have a deep loathing for Autozone parts, and will never use any Duralast or Valucraft brand part on my car, or anyone else's car if I can avoid it. I have never had anything but bad experiences with their quality, fitment, or reliability. I repair people's cars for them as a side job, and avoid AZ parts.

Get 99k miles out of an Autozone pump? HAHAHA.... how much did it cost compared to the Graf pump? 8 ridges versus 9 versus 10... I'd say any of them is fine, and doesn't really matter. Have you seen or heard of a pump shaft breaking off from the rest of the housing? Neither have I. It's not a design weakness. I would be very surprised if you get more than 50k miles out of that Autozone pump.... they're cheaper for a reason. The bearings are probably much lower quality.
That it not the plastic impellor one. BMW replaced these years ago, when the E36 was the current model. That is the ceramic/composite version.

Absolutely agree. It is Not a plastic impeller... It's an injected molded composite. Thank you for adding to the confirmation on this. Thank you.
Also, I remember seeing you (your video) on water pump failure before, I appreciated you uploading it... It was helpful for my reference when I was diagnosing my WP.

@eurowerke
Interesting comments. I'll respect them.
However, do you have any actual units/product(s) in your hands to inspect or compare, before you make your assumptions? Perhaps you should so you can contribute Actual knowledge instead of throwing up unsubstantiated opinions.
And for the record- The prices were about the same - $65.89 (w/ tax) for AZ unit vs. $66.57 (incl. S&H) the Graff unit.

The replacement part you have is ASC thats why it has a ph-1882 number it is the same supplier as autozone, oreilly and a few other part stores. ASC is not OEM or a supplier to BMW.

@PUREAAMERICAN
Thank you for the comment and the information. When I was producing the video I was referred to the part's "design" as like OEM, referring to the use of composite impeller. I should have clarified it more - Obviously Duralast brand is not OEM or a BMW supplier, That I agree.

I enjoy your video's, but I, also, feel that you are mass producing video's and neglecting the quality of each video. For instance, in this video some of the camera shots are redundant and, for the most part, can be seen by pausing the video. I recommend that you try to incorporate other aspects of the water pump project for instance including information about the different oem products; your personal experience with those oem products; signs of problems you want to look for.

Thanks.
Appreciate your comments.. but, I didn't realize I was mass producing vids. I primarily wanted to share what I worked-on/repaired first hand & of what I observed personally, mainly for reference. However, if you know of any Performance parts Sponsors who wants a more in-depth review of their products, send them my way. Also, I'm willing to improve my videography skills with better equipment, so If you or anyone you know has Pro Gear they like to donate, I greatly appreciate it.
