In Memoriam at the 76th Academy Awards Sunday, February 29, 2004

A special memorial was presented by Tom Hanks to comedian and past Oscar host Bob Hope. Which featured the music from Forrest Gump

A second special memorial was presented by Julia Roberts to actress and four time Oscar winner Katharine Hepburn.

The annual "In Memoriam" tribute was presented by Academy President Frank Pierson, starting with another actor that died in the previous year, Gregory Peck. Peck is followed by a list of Academy members who had also died in the previous year: Wendy Hiller, David Hemmings, Hope Lange, screenwriter George Axelrod, Charles Bronson, Michael Jeter, screenwriter David Newman, Ron O'Neal, Art Carney, director Elia Kazan, documentary filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, Karen Morley, Buddy Ebsen, director John Schlesinger, filmmaker Stan Brakhage, producer Ray Stark, movie trailer innovator Andrew J. Kuehn, John Ritter, Hume Cronyn, Buddy Hackett, composer Michael Kamen, screenwriter John Gregory Dunne, Robert Stack, Alan Bates, Gregory Hines, Jack Elam, Jeanne Crain, Ann Miller, and Donald O'Connor

  • Total class. It didn't rush through, but allowed viewers to read, see, remember, and salute those whom we lost. Current Oscar producers should pay attention and take heed.

  • @synoh7283 The song playing from 6:04 to 7:01 is not The Love of the Princess from The Thief of Baghdad. I cannot find out where this music is from. Can you help me out with this? Its also played at the very end (in between is the music from The Thief of Baghdad)
