Hehe, this idea sprung up when mukamuka and I were talking, when we ended up arguing who would be better. Not that it matters a whole lot, but here's a somewhat precise comparison. Refer to the Lu Bu Top Tier Comparison video.

First of all, you should keep in mind that it is assumed that both these characters are played to the best. With this idea in mind, it should be possible to come up with a good experiment to determine who is better. If in any case, anyone can play these characters any better to the point that it would significantly make a faster completion time, then please let me know. I am showing only 1 video for each character, both videos have some but slight, waiting time for officers to show up, since they are killing the officers so fast. Cao Ren is omitted because his showing up is the most random, and he may show up at different points sometimes.

Lu Bu: I tried in many cases to minimize the musou needed. So you can refer to Zhu Ling: I used exactly the number of hits needed. Another good one to note is Cheng Pu: I didnt let the C3 finish because his full true musou would be just enough to kill him. Lastly, this may be a good instructional vid, to show how to hit blocking officers with his C3. Refer to Xu Huang for this one. After the ice, his true musou does it all. This makes any officer vulnerable to Lu Bu on defense. And the point is...all officers are also vulnerable to Ma Chao on horse.

Ma Chao: Well, I dont have much to say for this one. Try to get six normal attacks and then follow up with full horse musou. After that it takes only about 4 hits to finish an officer. Simple. I think I did get hit off the horse once, correction times can be made for this, but it would only help his completion time by 2 seconds or so. Just an interesting note for Ma Chao, probably the best way to use him is to no use L1, and always circle around an officer and still get six hits successfully. This is pretty hard, but possible.

Time Calculations:
Lu Bu:
refering to [01:24:00 - 01:26:10] Lu Bu wastes 2:10, which is 2.66 seconds per true musou. I did 9 true musous, which sums to be 23.94 seconds.
Total Time = [00:35:00 - 04:41:11] = 281.73 - 35.00 - 23.94 = 222.79

Ma Chao:
Total Time = [00:33:11 - 04:14:09] = 254.60 - 33.73 = 220.87

Ideally, the same time as you can see.
As a final note, both characters can have even more precise time corrections for ideal runs, where there were some waiting times, and minor mistakes, but the point is, it wont change the times significantly. Lu Bu ends up having about 100 more KOs than Ma Chao, and does it in the same amount of time. This enables Lu Bu to gain more Musou Rages in the long run. The conclusion is that they are obviously within the same tier. Who is better doesnt really matter, but by this experiment, it would have to be Lu Bu.

  • Ultimate cheapness...

  • ma chao: the blender on a horse lol

  • What's wrong with NPC's movesets they are kinda good to me

  • It's my opinion that he's so horrible on ground. The first 3 attacks of his square chains are so easily to get interfered with. Really, I'd take my #1 Sima Yi to top him easily.

  • hey that is fine, i agree he isn't everyone's cup of tea.

i just wouldn't call his ground skills horrible. I play him on the hardest level and spend most of the time on the ground and he dominates. Not sure what constitutes as horrible but hey maybe thats just me.

  • If that is all, then I'll still dump him on my fail list.

Also: Shadow harness Ma Chao > Red Hare Ma Chao.

  • well it's not that complicated, the same way you master other characters just memorizing his moveset and reading the enemy and knowing when to use or not use paticular moves.

I mean he is a very strange character to master. And his moveset has him all over the place but

his combination of speed and power is very unique for an regular officer.

basically he is as quick as zhao yun and other fast characters but he hits as hard as zhang fei and other powerful characters.

    I play him ALOT

  • Who cares about Lu Bu, he's out of the question.

I can see why he's as fast or as powerful as I don't know what character, I was still hoping you could tell me HOW to use him, like you spoke of in your first reaction.

  • Who cares if his move set is based on an NPC with different charges and musou?

look closely there are alot of characters like that who have very similar moves with the exception of the charges and musou.

I don't see why that fact makes him bad. Of course he is no lu bu.

But his attack speed (If you can land everything) is about as fast as Zhao yun

but his attack stregnth is about as good as that of Zhang fei and guan yu.

That alone makes him very powerful in his one right.

  • That still doesn't convince me why he is so good. His move is based of an NPC, only with different charges and musou.

I'm definately against him. Unstable and easy to interfere (unless you can get him to his C6) on the ground. Granted he is the best horseman around.
