This is one of my better buzz coil setups. This has the buzz coil and the "Make or Break" coil to run spark plug fired or ignitor fired engines.

  • can you use one of these on a hit and miss engine?

  • @JohnsAirEngines Yes this is what it is used for.

  • Hi Hallaran:

Do I know you? I got an invite to be-friend you. Cool ignition coil test by the way.

  • @Hallaran LOL now thats a real backfire !.... Iv'e had blown gasgets ,those doughnuts on the header pipes from backfires but never blown the inside out of a catalitic converter. My uncle had a 83 chevy 3/4 ton pickup that at times when shuting the engine off the hot cast iron manifolds would produce a back fire from unburned fuel , I think the idle was possibly a little fast alowing the engine mometum to pump fue air mixture into the exhaust ,with a 30 or 40 second delay at times on the boom !

  • @kamphwagon1 I hear you, I had a Z28 once that fried an entire set of wires. It shorted through the wires and caused the engine to backfire through the exhaust system at which time it caused the combs in the catalytic converter to shatter.

  • @Hallaran Yep thats a possibility anytime you get the voltage high enough, some mechenics are saying some of these automotive systems can be a threat to your health ,I know plug gaps have increased over the years . At one time GMs HEI was the hotest on the market ,now days it's hard to say ,ignition wire size has went from the stadard 7mm to 9mm diameter and alot of the newer stuff has the coil in combination with the plug boot fireing the plug every time the piston comes to TDC

  • @kamphwagon1 Yes, I am not going to start experimenting with the Tesla coils - one zap and it could be your last!
