Occupy Oakland attempted to reclaim an abandoned building to use as a social center and headquarters. A number of buildings were chosen but were not to be decided upon until the actual march, depending on protest size and police presence.
After nearly being trapped in Laney College, the Occupy protestors successfully outflanked the police and attempted to take the Kaiser Convention Center. The Move-In however was met with violent police force.

Police should have used live rounds after the rioters refused to back down after the warning shots were fired.

And if you think that their right to assemble is any less valid because you disagree with them you may as well go down to the National Archives and piss on the Constitution right now. Like I said I don't agree with their movement, but I know the day may come when I'll need to invoke my rights. Get a clue man.

I don't agree with the occupy movement, but it is pretty unsettling to see the police use this kind of force against the citizens they took an oath to protect. The police are the ones creating a need for these protesters to protect themselves. They are violating the First Amendment by manufacturing this violence. Do you really think that the protesters would be marching around with gas masks and shields if they weren't being assaulted?

Please note the number of poeple with gas masks and home made shields. These are not your friends, but a group of anarchists who wish to destroy the American way of life. To that end, it is fun listening to their girlish screams as the police finally get their big-boy pants about their waists and respond.

Then without the bank's permission they have no right to be there. It is possible the bank let it go to the government, which gives the people a right to the building, yet the government isn't likely to have actually gone through the process for that over some useless buildings & I doubt those rioters know whether the government or the bank owns the place.

Unless I'm sorely mistaken, somebody probably owned that abandoned building. Therefore the cops were right & OWS was wrong.
On a side note, the trash cans were a nice touch. Those made this worth watching.
