The last time I went to Africa I had a difficult time afterwards explaining to people why I found the experience so powerful -- and why they should go someday if they ever get the chance.
There are beautiful things to see and, even in places that won't ever end up on anyone's travel itinerary and much less on a postcard, beautiful people to meet.
I told myself that if I ever made it back, I'd do a better job chronicling my visit so that it would be simpler to explain why this is a place where you can cry tears of sorrow and of joy within minutes of each other.
I was on a journalism assignment and used some of this footage for work. But this is not journalism nor was it intended to be.
It's just how I spent the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007.
Thanks for posting this. In Africa, it is politics letting us down otherwise the common people and children as you can see have the spirit and smile on their faces. The politicians do everything they can to maintain themselves in power, they still at every opportunity and send their kids abroad while ruining their own land. But I have the hope that one day, Africa will be a developed continent. Even if it after a thousand years.
