I remember loving this back in the day. Thanks to the internet, we can travel back in time and listen to old stuff we have forgotten about. I never understand why people like Michael Henderson weren't as successful as they should have been considering the great music they put out.

this song was in reference to the 1979 afc championship game between the oilers/steelers. Mike Renfro had a apparent touchdown. But the refs saw otherwise. The Oilers should have been going to the Super Bowl that year. Bum Phillips made a statement at a Pep Rally in the Astrodome. He said that the next year we where gonna kick that "SOB" in. I watched the game. Earl Campbell was one of my favorite players. Michael Henderson also appeared on Soul Train in 1980 doing "Wide Receiver".

This brings back memories. In junior high school, girls wore shirts that said "I'm a Wide Receiver." From ironed-on stencils. I thought it was nasty then and I guess it was? Lol.

I recall in the summer of 1980, going to the record store with my older brother and one of my cousins to go by "Wide Receiver", Zapp's "More Bounce To The Ounce" and Cameo's "Cameosis" albums. They had a big poster of Prince for his up coming third album release called "Dirty Mind" with him wearing the trench coat & briefs. We all looked in shocked at the poster and said "WTF happen to Prince?!!!" Lol!! Damn! this song takes me back, 1980 was definitely a good year for great music!
