Deadly serious. The battery gave up just after a year on mine, and from what I can feel, even if elevated, most of the heat comes from above the battery slot. Unlike a Core2 Duo I have been using, the machine cannot handle CATIA for too long before throttling down the CPU and then shutting off. And the fans are really very tiring to put up with for a long time- This machine has to go...
It's a desktop replacement, you can't be serious about the battery life. I never used my battery since i bought it. There is no point. It's the same with every other desktop replacement machine. I've had mine for as long as you've had yours and haven't had a single problem. The overheating issues can be eliminated by simply getting a compressed air can and blowing the dust off the fans and the heat sinks. And make sure it's elevated above the surface it is sitting on when you use it.
8369ea - 2048MB RAM, 500GB HDD, 1440x900 WXGA, ATI X600 256MB Dedicated video RAM, P4HT Running at 3.6GHz, Windows XP home, At the moment theres a motherboard problem :P And will cost a fair bit to fix :/ Cant wait to have it back.
8398EA - 2048MB, 100MB HDD, 1440x900 WXGA, ATI X600 at 256MB dedicated (especially important for my CATIA software) P4HT running at 3.4GHz, Power rating 175W(!!!) @240v, Altec Lanseng speakers (the best bit about it), 3D sound. This and the ZD8480 were essentially the same spec but ZD8480 had 1024MB RAM.
fans/CPU/heatsinks just to allow it to run a little cooler without shutting down on a flat suface. In any case, I hope to be selling it soon for a Toshiba tablet PC so hopefully it should be in good condition for the sale. I think I'd stick to Toshiba in future, I had a Sony VAIO before and I wasn't impressed with that, over priced, under spec'd and it went wrong after 6 months! - And they lost it somewhere...!
battery, so even if you don't charge your battery like a nutcase, it will still become a brick after 12 months - in fact, with the heat which *is* produced, I'm surprised none of the actually exploded - 12 cells if I am correct - imagine a mini Hiroshima in your bedroom. Would I buy another HP product? Well mine hasn't gone wrong yet and I've had it a good 3 years now so I might be one of the lucky ones. I would like to get it serviced so I can remove the crap from the....
I don't know why this got a -ve.. Problem is that these ZD8000s (mines an 8398ea) was that they had a lot of muscle at the time but they were running Pentium 4HTs and they had a major problem with heat and power consumption. A lot of manufacturers used Pentium M which was a Pentium 3 revamp and seriously reduced they amount of power other laptops used - It can be found as part of the Centrino package or a stand alone set-up. The motherboard is really badly designed. Heat soak occurs with the...
ATI radeon X600 with Dedicated Video Memory of (128mb or 256mb), My ZD8369ea has 256mb, However my laptop is fucked at the moment, I wouldent advise buying a HP Notebook ever.
