2 reactions of sodium metal with very warm water. In the 2nd video, sodium actually detonated. Hydrogen was formed that burnt with orangey yellow flame, the color owing to sodium vapor, and strongly alkaline sodium hydroxide was formed in solution.

  • why explodes? and just not consume to the end?

    Is the process too fast so the sodium cant handle the reaction ?

  • Sometimes its does, but in this case I think its because the metal get so hot that it starts to react extremely fast with water, as if it ignited.
