This has to be the most complex fixture I've built so far. It is a small scale reproduction of a 4 lamp half cylinder art deco fluorescent fixture that is usually preheat. The term "half piper" or "halfpiper" was coined on Lighting Gallery some time before I joined. This fixture has 4 ballasts and 4 starter sockets crammed into a small space, yet it doesn't get too hot. I had to use smaller undercabinet preheat ballasts since there was no way I was going to fit 4 regular preheat chokes in there and still have room for the starter sockets. A lot of the wires had to be cut shorter to prevent them from bundling up and taking up more space. Although this fixture has been sold on Lighting Gallery, I figured most people would want to see it starting up so here is the video showing 4 preheat lamps blinking randomly. It's fun to watch. I made the fixture using the ballast cover of a wraparound as the main housing and the ballast cover of a strip fixture as the back and the end plates were cut out of white plexiglass using a band saw with sheetmetal accents that were cut with tin snips. Cardboard templates were used for both the end plates and the accents. All in all I'm pretty happy with this super cool vintage reproduction fixture. With that said, enjoy!
i have got a account with lighting gallery but i dont really go on it so how could i get myy hands on one of these?? thanks
