Joe Askins of YoChicago.com continues his drive through Margate Park in Uptown by winding through side streets like Ainslie, Margate Terrace, and Castlewood (site of Studs Terkel's old home). He ends the drive by passing through Lincoln Park for a look at some of the neighborhood's lakeside attractions.

  • I used to live in this neighborhood and I tell you I could have done a much better job narrating this drive. A lot of pointless driving around, dead air space and meaningless dialogue. There's a whole lot of history in this part of Uptown and the two Margate Park videos left me with quite an unsatisfactory feeling. Unemployment is at record post WWII highs and there are lots of talented people out there with detailed knowledge of these neighborhoods. Go out and find them YoChicago1.

  • Sine we operate with a small staff our following your suggestion would mean cutting the number of videos we do by a factor of four. Our experience has been that most people would rather seee more even if they're not optimal by your standards.

  • As someone who is thinking about relocating to Chicago and specifically the uptown area, I find these two videos useful. All the footage of the apartment buildings on and around Marine DR. helps me to get a feeling for the neighborhood. I don't neccessarily care about the history of the area if I don't like what I see.

  • Sir, I salute your indefatigability!

  • Whatever. This was still a lousy effort on the narration part. Your camera work is almost always good to excellent and I should have pointed that out in my first reply. The guy that did the videos on various south side neighborhoods, I believe his name is Zekas adds color, history, details and some interesting interviews with south side residents and community organizers. Many of your videos make the neighborhoods come alive. This one doesn't. No offense to the narrator who may be a great guy.
