what if i want a selection of just a line? no actual pixels in it...
i want to start making lines with the pen tool.

I tried holding down ALT and clicking to remove the handle, and it doesn't do anything at all for me.. I have CS3 also.. whats going on? =/

instead of shift clicking to make a next point with your pen tool, its enough to just click it :]

this is the most nerve-racking tool ever, so I love you right now:D

....and do you use that fill tool?

Hey lwild1970, thanks for your comment. Do you mean the paint bucket tool if so it fills in color and is normally taken from the foreground color. So lets say you opened up a document and you wanted it to be red, you could make the foreground color red and using the paint bucket tool click on the page and it will turn red. I very rarely use the paint bucket tool because i like to use shortcut keys

what I would like to know is about starting and stopping points. I mean when tracing a complex photo... where and how do you place your points? What I keep running into is when I trace say an eye and the points start overlapping each other. What usually starts happening is points start getting deleted or I am unable to close loops and such... any tuts on beyond the basics?

Hey koombuh, thanks for your comment. You always finish where you started unless you are ding paths. So lets say for example you are using the pen tool around an eye, start at the left corner of the eye (click) then go to the top of the eye (click and drag) so the line is nicely around the eye. Then go to the right corner of the eye (click and drag). Then go to the bottom center (Click drag) then to close it go back to the left corner and click
