A special Star Trek music featuring our Will Riker on his trombone. He's kinda good, still he kinda sucks, yes. Enjoy or something :P

  • he plays his own stuff, or so i thought.

  • I kindly want to say that I highly doubt it, though it's really cool that he does what he do so good that some people think he's playing it for real. :)

  • @andyib632 He does. Actually he plays in a Phish song called "Riker's Trombone." All Jonathon Frakes.

  • @johannalaforge

He actually does do it himself. I asked him 4 years ago at a convention.

But he's not actually playing while they're filming, its a recording of himself.

  • On the first one its Dick Nash , on the other one where hes in the bar with Troi and Crusher listening to him its Bill Watrous. On those 2 occasions the producers actually got 2 professional trombonists dub him over due to the realization that he had to sound "good" at those points, or at least better than Frakes was able to do himself. All the other occasions , it wasnt really important and Frakes did it himself. He actually did play trombone a little. Did it in Marching Band in college.

  • @ReminiscenceHr He's fine for the first A, but the second A he puts the melody into a 3/4 deal almost... but it worked out I s'pose since the band followed him. It isn't all tidy though; by the end of that second A, there's a little bit of a harmonic lag

  • 1:57 Misty. He can't hit that first note of the second bar. And the head of the first clip is almost The nearness of you. The notes are the same but rhythmically something is different i think.

  • No way was he playing on "The Nearness of You." No slide vibrato, close-up showed no jaw vibrato going on, either.

  • @johannalaforge It's dubbed over by a local pro, Bill Watrous, if I remember right. Frakes does play the trombone, but not nearly as well as he is portrayed in most scenes, i.e. playing "the nearness of you" in the first clip.

  • I love this section, I want my own holodeck

  • hahahaha, the first part was epic to listen to.

the second part "its far less confusing then how u normally speak" PPPFRRH! :@

XD; haha riker is my favorite character! Well.. i like picard too, i think i like them both equal :D

  • the black guy in back like "Damn shes looking at him not me... *sigh*

  • the name of the tune he was playing The Nearness of You

  • if i said play misty for me, in g, minuet, would you then have a consultation, with, let's say, your stormy weather machine in the year 2011 with Absinthohol and or/with me?
