Les Bicyclettes de Belsize is a 1968 Brittish musical short film that tells the story of a young man cycling around the Hampstead area of London on a Raleigh RSW16 bicycle, and that after crashing into a billboard falls in love with the model that is featured on it. This song, which was written by Les Reed and Barry Mason, and that I recorded for my LP "ENGELBERT," released in 1969 was the theme song for the film. Despite its title, the Belsize Park does not appear in the film.
Engelbert was one of my mothers favs and he became mine too. His voice is simply amazing and the song is just one splendid jewel.

What always amazes me about his singing is that he does not have to have a strong background orchestra to make him sound good, only his basic voice is wonderful to listen to.

An old familiar song, yet still very enjoyable to listen to. After you hear it, it tends to stay inside you, and make you hum it for hours. Les Reed and Barry Mason have come up with quite a few GOODIES, haven't they?
I've known this song for many years, but never knew the background story ---- thanks so much for providing it.

Love to listen to DJ's trying to pronounce this title. I remember when you had the big ball spinning above you when you sang this. Oh how young. Beautiful.
