The African American community and the Hispanic community, and other racial and ethnic groups lag far behind the mainstream caucasian community in #1 their access to infertility treatment, but also their outcomes of infertility treatment. Those who make it don't even do as well for a multitude of reasons. My goal of course with Fertility Partnership is to focus primarily on outreach on access, trying to get African American and Hispanic people, Asian people to come and feel comfortable here. You do that by staffing in a diverse way. You do it by treating people warmly and compassionately.

The African American community has it's own specific issues, and the Hispanic community... For example the Hispanic community may have religious issues; many are strong Catholics, and they may have religious issues. At Fertility Partnership we have a Catholic-friendly program to help those people who adhere strictly to the faith. In the African American community there are issues almost of stigma like, "there's nothing wrong with me." To come in and admit that there's something broken, something isn't working, it's very hard. And these are the kinds of stigmas I need to break.

One in seven couples can't get pregnant and there's nothing wrong. It's just that you're a statistic. Come in so we can help you, because if you take all the people who walk through our door of our office, close to 80 to 85 percent of the people will successfully get a baby if they stay the course.
