actuually, it's to hear himself better. it helps filter in nearest sound waves to be near a wall to rebound it back to you.

if he stood openly in the room, he wouldn't hear anything because, since he's away, everything in the room reverberates in the room on a similar level, as opposed to his voice moreso.

@LanceHertford, no, he's just limited in general(obviously why they kicked him out). he's not just limited in controlling power, but also how he drums. he can only be precise when slow, or a few types of fills when faster. he doesn't think ahead, unlike Dave Grohl (obviously); so, like with everything else, it's a mental limitation that's the core problem. also, they're in a small room; so, even their own instruments would be too muddy.

@Sudhish86 Which would have been necessary since Chad Channing was one of those drummers who can't seem to understand the concept of dynamic shading, and only has two volume: loud, and louder. He's also way too muddy. I hate that shit. I had a drummer like that, and no one else can hear themselves playing.
