Local companies trading across East Africa are crying foul over the disjointed implementation of customs protocols meant to ease the flow of goods. Their bone of contention is that the coming together of the East African Community has not translated into the lowering to zero of duty on goods produced within the trade bloc.
This is typical- make big decisions, do not work-out the details and MOST IMPORTANT fail to inform, educate and support decision makers at the coal-face. The root of all corruption in World Trade at borders and boundaries is this. Take a lesson from the European Union and its extensive value-chain in policy making and enforcement. This East African Union is doomed to fail, like in the 1977- all borders will close again if they don't change their policy implementation and resourcing/support

Hebu nisimtapishe yeyote!
