I had a job in the 90,s of fitting new sluice gates in the London victorian sewer system.
The old gates were over 100 years old and had 100 years of fat build up which was over a foot thick and stank ! plus the sewage plus flushed drug needles plus any toxins and poisonous gases.
My wage for such a high risk job ?
25 quid a day plus 12 quid for food and board.
