In November 2011, the Courage Campaign honored Marcy Carsey at the first ever Spirit of Courage Awards. Marcy embodies the American Dream. She grew up a child of working class parents in Massachusetts. Instilled with her parents' love and confidence, Marcy climbed her way from studio tour guide to creator of America's most beloved television shows, including The Cosby Show, Roseanne, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and That 70's Show. Along the way, she nurtured a family of two children and an extended family of dozens more. Marcy is the quiet, determined philanthropist who gives generously and thoughtfully. Well aware that America made her success possible, she feels compelled to make our country the place of dreams again. Marcy's life is Courage -- fearless and filled with love and laughter, even in tough times.
The Courage Campaign provided a whimsical evening to celebrate Marcy's own unconventional sense of fun. No stuffy, inescapable sit-down dinner. No long speeches. It was just a celebration of Courage and the spirit of Marcy.
