Adolescent depression is increasing at an alarming rate, according to Mental Health America. Recent surveys indicate that as many as one in five teens suffers from clinical depression.
Sometimes, teens become depressed despite everyones best efforts. Regardless of cause - chemical imbalance in the brain, family history, or traumatic life events it is extremely important that depressed teens receive prompt, professional treatment.
Phase IV study in English and Spanish exploring the safety and efficacy of EMSAM, a new monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant for treating adolescents with depression. The flexible dose study is double blind, placebo controlled, and randomized. It is delivered via a patch that is applied to the upper torso. If a teen exhibits unusual persistent changes in behavior for more than two weeks, they may be experiencing depression and may be a candidate for this study.
Segal Institute is the only site in South Florida and one of 25 in the nation participating in this study.
