Domingo is great, unique. There are singers and there are artists: it's the same as the difference between a pretty woman and a truly beautiful woman. And Domingo really is an artist to his very soul.

who cares if you transpose the music, the joy comes from hearing the great voice of any singer. You don't sell MILLIONS of records because people care that you transposed the music! they buy it cause they like it!

-
Not his best repertoire but very good.Oh yea, I forgot, but not like...

-
Ok this was terrible!
-
-
This is a nice performance, and I am surprised that Domingo would choose to perform this in concert! He avoided high B's in concert most of the time.
-
THIS RECORDING HAS ALOT OF ECHO IN IT
-
is a BARITONE...

bjoerelli, you and whoever else is hating on placido....you are so very ignorant. OF COURSE he can transpose it down, it 's HIS recital. secondly. he comes off the high b because...its high and incase you havn't noticed....he was never a true tenor. if you ask him like i've read he could be a high baritone but with countless hours of work and IMPECCABLE technique he is able to access the top quite well. and about Pavarotti, he transposed it down in the opera itself which placido never did.
-
No one sing this aria BETTER than Pavarotti! Other tenors gave wonderful renditons such as Jaime Aragall, Raimondi or Corelli but Pavarotti overshadows them all! Placido Domingo is only average here! Listen how he "negociated" the high C when he had to sing "La esperanza" by the end of the aria. He got rid of it quickly as he was afraid not to give it its real rendition! Compare with Pavarotti!

ah ah ah sei forte

The fact that it´s transposed is nothing to be upset about many singers transposed this aria. But why is he cutting the legato line in the phrase "la speranza" I´m convinced that it´s because he is uncomfortable with the high B. To me it´s proof of a technique that is insecure in the registration of the high notes. I also don´t like the end note Vi piaccia DIR a would have liked it to be tender and piano, but that´s not Domingo´s cup of tea

I agree with you, this is no good for him, too lyric and of course transposed down half tone as usual.

Nice try Sherlock! As yourself when. All top tenors in the height of their careers sung it in key and produced glorious top Cs. Domingo never bothered about that even in his youth as he was not capable. He sounds hooted, throaty, monochromatic and pushed, which are all signs of a poor technique. His upper register is simply weak. And this aria is not the only thing he transposed. He's been transposing whole operatic roles since his early days. Get a clue!

Sorry, pal, but this aria is frequently transposed down. You get a clue.

Did MINGO (where's the DO?) unashamedly transpose Che Gelida Manina to skip the top notes? LoL...of course he did. He made a career based on transposing. Just another example of the disservice he made to opera.

Of course, Caruso also transposed this aria and everybody knows what a great disservice he made to opera too.
