If apple put more money and effort into firewire, they could've beaten USB. Too bad that they didn't.

Sure USB 2.0 has a higher optimal speed but firewire's is only slightly lower and it reaches its optimal speed more than USB 2.0. It' like PowerPC VS. Intel. Intel had a lower optimum speed, but was better in reaal life. no wonder Apple Switched. USB 3.0 vs. Firewire 800 will be the next battle of the standards. -Kazbidoof

they could have, easily. I think the only problem is everyone involved in firewire wanted royalties. Since that's like 7 companies, cheap computer makers opted to go with USB. Sucks, firewire is superior.

there was no reason to as they are not comparable usb is cheaper but rarely runs at full speed firewire runs faster but is more expensive
the main reason usb won is because it is totally backwards compatable.
