sorry "hollpop1" but some of these images are fairly misleading, and they suggest that desertification is the process whereby somehow magically lush, fertile land turns into a desert, with sand dunes and all. THIS IS WRONG!!!!

well its not necessarily the trees that help;

the grass that was there is used to graze cattle for food,

the land dries out leaving no water,

and who wants a dessert in their back garden?

(i did this video a few years ago, so im not entirely sure if that answer is right, but thats my best guess)

@eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk Yeah, desertification happens in ""arid, semi-arid and dry sub-tropical areas" and these areas are created by deforestation, over pumping water tables, and erosion caused by the latter. Your statement wasn't very well thought out. I guess you never heard of the dust bowl?

@rbdbety Tree's help by stopping erosion. Erosion is the leading cause of desertification. After this is over pumping water tables at a faster rate then they can return.  Over grassing is a third concern. The book "plan b 4.0" is one of leading books in climate change.

@hollypop1 you misread, I'm saying that the video is "fairly misleading" and this suggests something which is wrong. The video could be said to be wrong as you stated that certain pictures that looked like fertile, fields turned into others which looked like a barren wasteland. remember that desertification only occurs in "arid, semi-arid and dry sub-tropical areas" (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification). Technically, therefore, your video is wrong.
