http://www.FunToWatch.TV Produced by Stephen M. Wessells. USGS scientists recount their experiences before, during and after the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. Loss of their colleague David A. Johnston and 56 others in the eruption cast a pall over one of the most dramatic geologic moments in American history.

Yesterday was "Mount Saint Helens Day"! It's not a real holiday. I made it up because at 8:32am on 5/18/80 I was living in Keizer, Oregon The town is 95 miles southwest of Mt Saint Helens' peak as the crow flies. When the mountain went KA-BLOOOIE I felt the pulse wave of the explosion's concussion, and my ears started ringing from the sound wave of the tremendous noise the explosion. Check out this and the other videos MIja. Pay attention to Dave Jonhston. I'll tell you why tomorrow....

My brother and were driving back from the Long Beach Washington, we had been Salmon fishing that morning. As we got close to Longveiw I pulled over to use the bathroom along the road. When I looked up I thought it was a nuke going off, until we turn the raido on. What a sight it was

I'm guessing sun damage due to his line of work took a toll on his facial skin

My dad and I were at Spirit Lake along with many other curious people a month before it blew. Cars with whole families were parked for miles along the road there were even food vendors selling their wares. I now wonder how many would have died if she decided to blow at that time. Many thanks to the authorities who closed off access to the area.
