Here we go: the official end and final fight of disc 4.

This is the third of three final fights in the game.

This music creeps the fark out of me, especially the moaning.

Zidane, Quina, Eiko and Amarant against Necron, the 'where the hell did you come from?' boss, at the Hill of Despair.

Alright, before I describe his attacks, I have to rant this out. What the hell is this!? Who IS this guy and where did he come from? What kind of final boss is this? He has NOTHING to do with the story. What was Square thinking: 'Hey, let's tack on a brand new, unrelated character to the last 10 minutes of the game, who hasn't contributed to the main plot, was never heard of til now, never hinted at his existance and make him a final boss, a title that usually goes to a character that at least did something at some point in the game. Brillant!'

Sorry for the outburst.

After a lengthy opening, you can choose any four characters. This is important: make sure EVERYONE has auto-haste and auto-life equipped. Then equip as many status protection abilities as you have (you'll see why).

Now onto the fight.

This thing's speed is un-farking-believable. He can do 5 actions in a row even after you chose yours. And this is with auto-haste equipped.

Now onto the attacks.

He can cast Shell and Protect at a drop of a hat.

He does all three level elemental spells.

Blue-shockwave drops one character's HP to 1.

He does Holy and Flare.

Now for the bad ones:

Grand Cross. This lengthy, video quality-destroying attack can hit you with absolutely every single status ailment out there, including zombie, berserk, Doom and death. Sometimes you get hit with a couple, sometimes all of them, sometimes none. If he trances you after the attack, you'll be free of ailments. The worse is still out there.

After Grand Cross, his rings will go nuts. At some point (probably before you can heal yourself to 100%), he'll do Neutron Ring, an everyone attack doing 2000-3000 HP damage. If Grand Cross didn't kill you, this will.

The trouble with zombie is that you stay in zombie status even KO'ed. Regen and other healing things hurt you. Remedy and Esura CANNOT remove it. So you have to use a magic tag first, then revive the character.

Now for the party members:
-Zidane can attack with 9999 damage (I have MP Attack equipped)
-Quina for auto-life, Mighty Guard and Angel's Snack (casts Remedy on everyone)
-Eiko for healing
-Amarant for attack and his Flair abilities (No Mercy, Revive and Aura).

Amarant trances into a giant purple people eater. This allows him to cast his Flair abilites on everyone.

Quina, even after being killed every five minutes, saves the universe with Frog Drop (anti-climatic).

Afterwards, Kuja teleports the party to safety.

Necron's death is really good.

Necron is another FF reference. Near the end of FFV, you can fight an optional boss named Necron (no connection though, except in name).

Excuse the video quality. This was a long video.

And completes FFIX. Thanks for watching.

  • Actually, the FFV monster's name is Necros. and Necron's design is based off it.

He also has more to do with the story that you say :P But the game doesn't tell you outright, so one has to do Research.

  • Actually, after reading about FFIII's plot with Cloud of Darkness, Necron is becoming more understandable. Both he and CoD were 'Where the hell did you come from?' bosses. Seems like they used a part of FFIII plot for FFIX's story.

  • Hmm..I don't fight Necron I only beat Kuja and went strait to the end scene

  • That's impossible. The fight with Kuja goes directly to Necron.

  • EPIC music.

  • Fear leads to anger...

    Anger leads to hate...

    Hate leads to suffering...

Hearing lines from Star Wars leads to writing FFIX scripts.

No offense, I love FFIX, but didn't anyone think "HOLD ON! Yoda said that!"?

Still a good game. And I love this music! It's so creepy (in a good way)! The moaning really adds to the ambience.

  • I got SOOOO lucky during this fight. I don't know how, nobody ever learned Phoenix, and I didnt use any items aside from elixirs, but a neutron ring wiped my party out. And then suddenly Phoenix revived everyone at the last second. 1 more attack and Necron went down.

  • i remember the first time i faced him i used dagger, eiko, vivi, and zidane all four got trance at the same time if not for that i would have lost. thank holy for trance

  • @PerfectGenius23

Well actually, FFIX was supposed to be an hommage to the entire serie. It uses parts of every FF.

  • I love the music in this fight

  • Anything would make a better final boss than Kuja.

The development team realized that, and went on with Necron.

  • If u look carefully he actually is "vaguely" mentioned. He is mentioned as the thing that earth summoned a long time ago. It isn't just Ark they were afraid of and in Oveliert, The magic place as you recall. If you lok at the walls when u meet the big globe there is a picture of him. It is hard to see cause of quality but he is there. I am a man of incredible observation.... See it for yourself if you have time... And let me know if you see him.

    me

  • @kensontheasian hahahaha...u just made me laugh

  • first time i beat this game i had Zidane Vivi and Amarant dead and Freya had a countdown and i killed him at the last second with Freya

  • Also the reason Necron came to beat all your asses is because if you actually read anything Kuja said in disc 3 you would understand Kuja said that the world wont exist without him meaning he would summon Necron to end the world. Necron also means death in Latin or Greek, something like that.

  • Congragulations, you're retarded
