@nnmk001 I would agree that it is doubtful that anyone can receive wifi signals from several miles away unless it was true line of sight. Signals at 2.4 GHz weakens significantly over distances and through obstacles. Then you would need to have a parabolic grid type antenna or a high gain flat panel. I found both of them to be very effective within a block away. In fact. I am able to receive an unsecured router in my neighborhood using a 20dBi flat panel antenna indoors about 600 feet away.

having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side you're connecting to so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to pickup wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side having just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!

aimed at the roof? maybe is your own router... the imaginary line for aim is in the middle of the angle between the dish and the arm that supports the focus...
