I began working with synfig ( http://www.synfig.com ), a 2-d open source animation program. It's still in it's very early stages, and not well documented at this point. However, there are some tutorials on the wiki, which you can find linked from the site listed above. I recommend following both the animation and the still image tutorials if you are interested in trying out this program. It is not real stable yet, so it is prone to crashes at times on my Xubuntu GNU/Linux system.

Anyhow, this very simple test of an animated path (they are called bline in synfig) was finalized with GAP (gimp animation package) and ffmpeg.

  • Cool! ill try this program.

  • Thank you for the comment. It can be a bit confusing to work with. If you post anything you make with it, I would be interested in seeing it. I'm still learning this program myself.

  • hey, I have synfig... the only problem is that i can't find any GOOD tutorials... think you can make a video tutorial? Video tutorials seem to be more helpful than just reading. So, if you can, that would be great... thanks
