  • Seems this comes from Dana Gioia's (critic) homepage.

Good 'view. 3:50 "Metaphors have an ambition to live... IT wants to live."

"but now I have... words, piling into the arena, also"

7:23 = her poem "Shipwreck." Really good... line by line... Just wished it were a little longer : Needed an "umph!" at the end perhaps.../...or not.

Between sincerity and Ashbery... I'd chose Kay Ryan!

  • Thank you for posting this, AspenInstitute.

  • This is one of the best interviews I ever seen about the nature of art and what it means to be an artist, thank you Dana Gioia for bringing this to us. Ryan is so clear and wise, and comforting in the unadorned, matter-of-fact way she presents her ideas.

  • Wonderful! I had the pleasure of listening to Kay recite live in 2009. Truly delightful. She is a unique, engaging person who oozes creativity.
