VICTORIA - Victoria City Council is exploring the idea of charging for on-street parking in the evenings and Sundays.
Acting Mayor Geoff Young says many drivers are taking up spaces for several hours at a time, preventing others from enjoying the convenience.
Parking is a source of revenue for the City, even when you factor in the cost of hiring commissionaires to police it.
Young says this isn't about collecting more money rather about rationing spaces and making them available for people who want to spend money downtown.
Council is expecting a report from staff in the coming weeks and a public consultation process will most likely be launched before any changes are made.
