Record books should read: Most Opens won: Vardon, 6; Watson, 5 71/72. But for a few poor putts & a bad bounce @ the last, the Claret Jug was Tom's. Still, he sent a message to all that talent, will, character & heart can triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds to achieve great things. 7 weeks shy of 60, tying for 1st after regulation play in golfs oldest most revered tournament is an achievement of unsurpassed merit, a new, glorious, memorable chapter in golfs history.
We salute him.

I agree that history should recognize the achievement and not the final putt in regulation and the playoff. That for 72 holes a 59 year old legend of the game played as well if not better than those literally half his age is a feat unparalleled in sport.
