haha, "clifford banes is replacing the mayor of baltimore". I live in Baltimore and last year around christmas time, mayor sheila dixon stole giftcards that were donated to the city for poor kids to get presents, and used them to buy stuff for her own family. haha what a piece of trash

Wow, the arguments that take place. I am entertained, but as for that religious nut 10-15 posts down, you are insane. I believe that Jesus is Lord, and you are not. I get so frustrated with all the arguing, and self-righteousness, from professors and wack jobs alike. But it is entertaining, at least a little bit, and I'm impressed with the two people before me.

Is the definition of the word really relevant here? The use of words is merely to communicate more abstract ideas to which they correspond. The contex in which the word was used clearly indicated the idea that was meant to imposed by it. If we can interpret somebodys ideas exactly as they intend us to, then the language used in the process is irrelevant. In fact mongoloid is not 'proper' anymore, wether it be to describe the former east asian group or a person affected with downes syndrome

"Monogoloid" never described any former East Asian group. "Monogoloid" is one of the 3 races, describing the skull type that people we know as "Asians" have. So I can go around saying, "N*gger", "f*ggot", "r*tard", etc. to mean, "idiot". Point taken. Look, of course definitions matter. We're using *words*, here. If we all used "slang" we'd be a world of chaos, no one knowing what the other was saying and some misinterpreting it. Thinking saying, "Monogoloid" as a substitute is okay is ignorance.

Well yes definitions only matter in the sense that they provide a guideline to the way an idea assosciated with a word is interpreted. Without them language simply has no meaning. However in many situations we must manipulate our interpretations to match the syntax we our given. We may alter syntax in a way, that that when construed, will generate the idea that is intended to be communicated. Such a situation is illustrated( or was anyways) below in the case of the mongoloid.
