Matt Helliker, a renowned mountaineer and climber talks to the camera about the risk associated with the sport he loves, before he and two other British climbers; Nick Bullock and Pete Benson headed off to the base of Annapurna III, to attempt the first ever ascent of the Eastern ridge
The Annapurna peaks are the world's most dangerous mountains to climb, with a fatality to summit ratio of around 40%. Annapurna III is one of a series of peaks forming a 55 kilometre long massif in the Himalayas, of which, Annapurna I, standing at 8091m, is the 10th highest summit in the world.
The guys, forming Team Samsung are travelling alpine-style; completely self sufficient, they'll be carrying everything from their food, shelter, equipment and personal items. They will also travel without help from medics, fixed ropes, high-altitude porters or any supplemental oxygen, in putting their body and mind under extreme stress. The risks are high, the challenge immense, but Matt, Ben and Pete are focused on making history and pushing the boundaries.
