This is a video of Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract surgery using the Alcon LenSx system for the laser portion and the Alcon Infinity for the cataract removal and an Alcon Flexible acryllic lens implant to replace the cataract. This patient is 75 years old and has been very farsighted with astigmatism all his life with a prescription of +6.00 -3.00 x 180 and uncorrected vision of 20/200 before surgery and 20/50 vision with his glasses. The laser was used to correct the astigmatism with 2 very precise arucate incisions in the cornea, the main incision of 2.8 mm to remove the cataract, and to soften the lens nucleus with 2 crossing incisions plus a central coring of the nucleus. 2 weeks after surgery the patient has 20/30 vision without glasses and his prescription is +0.50 D and he no longer wears glasses for driving or most reading tasks. He wears non precription magnifying glasses, +1.50 Diopters to read small print. He has now had surgery in both eyes and is very pleased to no longer require glasses to drive. Although the astigmatic incions can be made with a hand held diamond blade, the laser is a much more accurate technique and produces more predictable results.
