See how they emerge from the shadow at the very end of the clip.

  • One day our sleepy little word will wake-up and realize what a terrific movie this is. George Fenton's soundtrack is the best I've ever heard too.

  • C.S. Lewis...the man I could only dream of being.

  • The distiction I suppose is that life can be largely painful if we make the decision to be 'adult' and make emotional sacrifices for others. The suffering we can sometimes feel is due to opening up to someone emotionally. The price is that we must realise that life with someone doesn't last as long as we want. It is the freedom of choice that can be beautiful in its mix of pain and happiness.

  • The film, especially at the end, clarifies the truth that suffering can, in a mysterious way, be beautiful, when it springs from love. True love always has suffering within it, and the spiritual adult doesn't shrink from it--he embraces it. First happiness, then pain.

  • "The pain now is a part of the happiness then."

  • Any of you who read this, if you get the chance to visit England, please go to the Wye river valley. It's near Ross on Wye in the Forest Of Dean. This scene was filmed in English Bicknor, near Eastbach Road.

  • danke für die Sendung

  • Yeah, I liked that part too. She actually worked out pretty good in the part, much better than I expected.

  • I really like Debra Winger,I loved her 'american 'ness' when she arrived at the Oxford hotel and said'Anyone here called Lewis'?Had me in stitches.

  • Well that's good to know. I thought Winger and Hopkins were both terribly mis-cast going into the movie, but somehow it seemed to work. One of these days I would really like to see the original though.

  • I saw a BBC interview with one of Helen Joy Davidman's sons.He said the 1993 film was eerily close to how he remembered events.
