The Genocide Convention does in no way oblige any of its signators to intervene in the case of genocide. There is no such provision in this treaty. What willesnille wrote is just simply not true, that is probably also why your article was not published. If you disagree, please quote the respective article from the Genocide Convention that obliges states to intervene. There is none... I am not arguing that it was right, not to intervene, I'm just saying it's not as easy as willesnille puts it.

This discussion back and forth has a pretty easy solution; every country complies with its own law and the treaties it has ratified. All countrys that ratified the convention against genocide were legally obligated to intervene. ALL countrys (not just the US), with the exception of France who had economic interests in Rwanda, voted against an intervention which is required by law. And to clarify to mainly american readers, this is not a law that the UN tries to impose on states but a law....

that was willingly signed by almost all nations. And mysticx0: nobody is against american humanitarian intervention, only american aggression (which is incidentally also forbidden by a convention the US ratified) and support for dictatorships. Not intervening was a violation of law by almost all countries. I wrote an an article a few years back suggesting that Sweden (where I live) should either withdraw from the genocide convention or comply with it. It was not published...

thats not true! an military jet can get their within a few hours and they can land in europe for suplies, they would have been their in 3hours

if Rwanda had oil, diamonds ect the USA would have bombed every hutu malitia group, and peace would have been restored wthin 1 day, maybe less
