A trailer to the 1913 film "The Student of Prague". Available from Alpha Video. This was one of the earliest expressionist horror movies, its influence can be seen in films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis, and Nosferatu. It was remade in 1927 and several times since.

Just watched this movie in my German Cinema class. Pretty good. :) Love the idea of the sorcerer taking his reflection. Old German movies are awesome!

This film was a forerunner for expressionism and expressionism was the forerunner for horror film and film noir in USA in 1930's

I have this movie on dvd, but I can't remember if it's from Alpha. Personally, I would do a search to see if anybody else has put out the 1913 version, because the print I have is pretty lousy. It's pretty obvious that it was taken from an old vhs tape.

@017nosferatu Not the first (though this might be the first feature lenght horror movie) but a lot of people still don't know of it, even though it influenced The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and the more famous early silents. Nice screenname by the way.
