Giovinezza

Tenore Daniele Serra, orchestra Avitabile • La voce del padrone R10360 (BM1258-1▲)
26-11-1929

Words: Salvator Gotta. Music: Giuseppe Blanc

Salve, o Popolo d'Eroi
salve, o Patria immortale!
Son rinati i figli tuoi
con la fé nell'ideale.

Il valor dei tuoi guerrieri,
la virtù dei pionieri
la vision de l'Alighieri
oggi brilla in tutti i cuor.

Giovinezza, giovinezza,
primavera di bellezza
della vita nell'asprezza
il tuo canto squilla e va!

Dell'Italia nei confini
son rifatti gli italiani
li ha rifatti Mussolini
per la guerra di domani

Per la gioia del lavoro
per la pace e per l'alloro,
per la gogna di coloro
che la Patria rinnegar.

I poeti e gli artigiani,
i signori e i contadini,
con orgoglio d'italiani
giuran fede a Mussolini.

Non v'è povero quartiere
che non mandi le sue schiere,
che non spieghi le bandiere
del Fascismo redentor.

  • VIVA L'ITALIA! VIVA IL FASCISMO! VIVA IL DUCE!

  • A NOI!

  • Fascismo Redentor, indeed. All of which came to a bloody but appropriate end in April, 1945, near Dongo and in the Piazzale Loreto in Milan. The stirring tune and the original words, however, go back well before the Fascist period.

  • It's a rallying song for the Fascist movement to extol the glories of war. These propaganda songs were popular during the war. They were recorded by many popular Italian singers at the time. Sometimes they were "required" to sing them. The problem is that it also set back or in some cases ruined the careers of many of these singers because they sang them. Unfortunately, it was, and in some quarters still is, held against them. Probably not justified, but that's the way things are.

  • Thank you so very much for this great Daniele Serra song -- and for the lyrics, too!

  • Very fine recording of our beloved song of the Age of Heroes!
