I disagree with your premise. Khomeini was simply the next step in American support, and the controlled "man of the people", and a puppet of British intelligence all along. The entire charade has a long-term goal although "hidden." The goal is an elite with a manageable servant population and all excess non-elites will die in the coming war, famines, economic collapse, pestilences, etc. It is all theater.
