Louis XIV was actually a jerk: 15 years after he had sworn love to Marie Mancini (who had then been exiled and forced to marry), he does not take her back! she escaped an abusive marriage to an Italian Prince and goes back to her old love, and the big pompous Louis XIV does not take her back. can you believe it? so really, Louis XIV was no saintly king Emmanuel Moire portrays in le Roi Soleil. He was a bastard who did not keep his promise of love and did not help a survivor of domestic violence
