Our new (February 2008) HF antenna configured for NVIS operation seen behaving well in a moderate wind. On-air results have been good, especially on sixty meters, to which a parasitic passive reflector has been tuned.

  • Thanks. Glad you enjoy this stuff.

  • I've got a 65 foot B&W, yours looks a much longer B&W. How did you "tune" the parasitic reflector. I've been wondering whether 5% longer than total length is ideal. How could I figure out the length for the reflector for a certain band on a broadband dipole like the B&W? Thanks

  • Hello, txfieros, The parasitic reflector was tuned by inserting an MFJ-259B Analyzer at the reflector's midpoint, then nibbling the reflector's ends until it resonated at about 4.75 MHz, and then soldering the two halves of the reflector back together again. Best success with your installation.

  • I love ham radio videos. Especially since I'm a non-typical ham, and the nerd fights that come out are awesome.

  • First off its a B&W store bought antenna... secondly its mounted too low ... third its got a fence that is metal under it .. so how does the reflector work without fence induction.. third the coax is not hanging down 90 deg to the antenna... thus STAN AA6SC, its really ... a mess. The NVIS instructions say no nearby metal objects.. why they use fiberglass poles.. huh... u never were good at following directions (W4RNL, B&W) ,,,as usual. Then agn u NEVER REALLY WERE GOOD AT RADIO... hmmm

  • @m3xlipat THANKS FOR THE NICE LOOK AT YOUR NVIS ANTENNA.

    IT LOOKED QUITE WELL BUILT.
