Here's a song written by Lincoln Chase and originally recorded in 1964 by his often songwriting partner, Shirley Elliston. As I understand it, she performed the song much differently than how "Sir" Walter Scott handled his soulful performance with the band. (I must apologize for the clarity of the pics. LP labels don't scan very easily, and I didn't want to remove the shrink wrap that's been on the jacket for 45 years...

  • @VickyLou616 All versions, including one by Tommy Hunt on Spark Records from 1975, are on YouTube. Both the Landa and Route recordings sound exactly the same to me. The Route issue was probably in response to the Hunt recording. GREAT SONG all around! You gotta wonder why the original release only Bubbled Under when it was first released. Perhaps it was ahead of it's time...?

  • @SleepingLionGuy1 Thanks for the info!! I actually found the other version. Oh, I see. I looked it up. You're right, it was originally released on the Landa label in 1965. But then, it was released on the Route label 10 years after that. Not sure if that's the same version or not. Anyway, thanks again for the info! I still prefer this version, strongly, so thanks again for posting it!

  • @VickyLou616 As it turns out, this was NOT the Lincoln Chase song as recorded by Shirley Ellis, even though it's credited that way on the record. More accurately, the song was written by Richard Barrett and originally recorded in early 1965 by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes on the Landa label. Barrett also produced their record, which was more accurately titled "Get Out (And Let Me Cry)". "Get Out" by Shirley Ellis isn't even close to that title, though still a nice song on it's own merit.

  • Wow!! I was just looking for this song today... I didn't think I'd find it, but lo and behold, you just put it here yesterday! Whoever you are, I wonder if we are on the same wavelength... Excellent, excellent song, by the way!! Thanks!!
