Why is the ITV1 Menu in 16:9 aswell as the ITV1 Granada ident is in 4:3?

I was looking through an old tape yesterday and found a Carlton Ident from the West Midlands that is played just before Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and they and the annonucer reminds viewers that they will have a news special at 9 I will upload it ASAP.

I - 9 - September as the month.

T - 20 - 11 = 9.

V - 22 - Double digits - 11 as the date.

@BriWayne ISTR seeing this menu on Scottish TV during the week after September 11th, with the ITV1 branding. STV weren't as seperatist in their attitude towards ITV1 in those days. But I can't confirm this.
