August 12, 2010 - Debi Hullinger visits the NASA Johnson Space Center and gets a chance to to use the Space Shuttle Simulator and attempt a landing. She did not quite make it to the runway on her single attempt. Now you know why we call her Crash!
All shuttle pilots have high flight experience! The 'stress factor' during a shuttle landing is somehow enormous. In difference to a normal passenger plane, a shuttle pilot cannot 'fly a turn' and do a second attempt while re-gaining altitude. There are no atmospheric jet engines present, so there is only one single attempt which is necessarily a no-option 'must-go-well' attempt. If it eventually fails, the shuttle is lost or crashed or at least heavily damaged thereafter. So the astronauts.
