I never fail to be amazed at how well the "hamstick" antennas work!! See and hear the results of the 40 Meter Workman (Hamstick style) Antenna receiving and transmitting a signal from Indiana to Alabama on 7158 MHz..

  • Hi Wil, sorry for all the questions but you are the man who knows can you tell me what the internal tuner is like on the 703 plus i ask because some say its good and others not i wonder would it tune up say a rybakov style wire vertical antenna ok or would you need an external atu thanks i ask because i have a deal in progress for a 703 :-)

  • @RIDDICKorigional I’ve tuned up a G5RVs and dipoles with NO problem... I hadn’t tuned it with a long wire--- but I bet it could.... 73

  • Hi, can i ask your opinion on the ft 817 with the obp one big punch for the audio have you got obp in your 817 if so do you think it makes a big difference as the 817 has no processor thats the difference using the 897d at qrp it helps having the processor and dsp mic eq for high freq response to cut through better.

  • @RIDDICKorigional. No. I can honestly say, I cannot tell or others that hear me if the OBP makes a differences... But who knows, I still may not toggle the switch on the back of the mic correctly. 73

  • Hi, yeah i am currently using a yaesu ft 897d which i run on 5 watt min setting as it is 5-100w though i would like a dedicated qrp radio i only bought the 897d as it was a good price i must say it is a fantastic rig, qrp wise i much prefer the 703 over the 817, qrp i think it feels better to be using a dedicated rig i know there is the mfj though be better for me with something which has more bands though i could say get a 20m and 40m mfj what is your opinion on the mfj radios thanks.

  • @RIDDICKorigional. I do enjoy my 817 as well.. but the 703 is much easier to make contacts. The MFJ models however you cannot regulate the power output-- it's set. at anywhere between 5-12 watts I have seen on a couple of MFJs that I have. 73 from ALABAMA. Hope to catch you on HF !!! CQ CQ CQ

  • @RIDDICKorigional. You know, I'm not sure. There are so few vendors now marketing QRP radios. Last I heard Icom has no plans in reintroducing a QRP radio :-( However, the 857 Yaesu and others are great portable QRPs if you turn the power to 5 watts-- and save battery power to boot. 73.

  • Hi will do you think icom will bring out a replacement radio for the 703 plus i hope so i am still waiting.

  • nice work Wil another great video thats a neat radio.

  • Nice portable setup!
