  • Putting students in the position of having to violate a boycott is detrimental to the overall experience of the students and runs contrary to the purpose of WorldStrides. Furthermore, WorldStrides as an educational organization has a responsibility to the students placed under its care to provide a positive example. Crossing picket lines and disregarding the rights of the hotel workers who serve WorldStrides teaches students all the wrong lessons about social responsibility.

  • The Sheraton Crystal City has also failed to comply with the workers’ demands for a fair and democratic process to decide on whether to form a union, and the Hilton Crystal City has refused to negotiate a new fair and just labor contract, which has left Hilton Crystal City workers with a woefully inadequate salary and benefit plan for over three years.

  • These hotels are facing worker-called boycotts due to alleged violations of the workers’ rights, supply shortages, reduced hours with increased workloads, and the outsourcing of their jobs.

  • My name is Hayden Smith and I’m an eleventh grade student at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia. As a student who appreciates the value of educational travel, I support WorldStrides’ mission of providing students like myself with the opportunity to learn through experience. However, I was disappointed when I heard WorldStrides chooses to use two hotels currently under boycott in the Washington, D.C. area, the Sheraton Crystal City and Hilton Crystal City.
