Lotus is aiming to reduce whole-life impact of each component it fits, from production to final disposal, and points out that the hemp used in the Eco Elise was locally-farmed in East Anglia. This strong fibre is the primary component in the composite body panels, combined with a polyester resin, and it is also used for the seats. The wool for the upholstery is undyed and naturally-processed, without the use of solvents, and the sisal, used for the carpets, is also a renewable crop. Lotus says that it hopes that 'a fully-recyclable composite resin will be viable in the short-term future.'
