These are a portion of photos my father took when he was stationed at
Camp Fowler, a US military base in Sendai, Japan. Children in the photos are now nearing or well into retirement. The tsunami was quite devastating but hopefully most of the people my father saw when he was a young man made it through. I will follow-up with more notes later in the week.
My father was Al Pardo and may be remembered because he wore glasses from a young age and he was a map reading and radio repair instructor. He didn't want to be a teacher but he was told he would be court-martialed if he refused.
Absolutely moving, so touching photos ! Your father must be very an adorable person. Did he take other pictures from other cities those years ? I really wonder if you shouldn't organize an exhibition at the Sendai City Hall for instance in year 2013 (60 year's anniversary). Try to contact them and let us know. Thank you so much to have share these with us.
