Candle hot air balloon / Sky Lantern compilation

These are all homemade balloons made from either plastic film or tissue paper. Paper is the ideal choice because it's biodegradable and burns rapidly in case of a midair fire. The "candles" are made from pieces of cotton fabric soaked in paraffin wax.

We did this using dropcloth plastic and birthday candles. Use a clothes iron (insulated with a piece of fabric) to make them and there is no limit to the size.

We made some of these at my highschool using tissue paper and cottonballs soaked in meths. Great fun. The wind causes some havoc, mini Hindenburgs.

@saulkj98 Which kind of UFO balloon? I've made many balloons, and a lot of them can look like UFOs.

@saulkj98 Sounds like fun, although I might reconsider if I were near an airport. I didn't get to release any candle balloon this weekend because I've been preoccupied building a 25-foot flying saucer solar balloon.

@Headshothorror4488 It's best to do it after a rain or snowfall so everything is wet. If the balloon is made well, it should fly high and burn out before hitting the ground again, but not every balloon is perfect so you should make sure everything is wet in case it does land in a tree.
