It is an extension of the Old Enclosure, which Thomas More believed was the cause of so many social ills in England. Maria Gilardin, I think, has a somewhat better show than Amy Goodman. Amy Goodman's intellectual source seems to Chomsky or Howard Zinn; while Parenti appears on her show more (and I just find him far more interesting than Chomsky or Zinn). It's also not coincidental that location might have something to do with who they use.
