actually, it's the holes on the top of a violin or arch-top guitar - cause they look like the letter f. I say it's because that's the word you use when you drop your pick inside of one of those and have to spend who-knows-how-long flippping your guitar over and over to get the sonovagun to fall back out.

These are the Winnipeg f-holes. (There are a number of US bands with the same name, apparently.) They just played my daughter's wedding in Regina, and they are the craziest, funnest band you will ever encounter. Play long and prosper, guys!
